| PRESIDENT'S JANUARY NEWSLETTER Welcome to 2012 the year of the Dragon according to Chinese tradition. Chinese lore says the year of the dragon will be marked by excitement, unpredictability, exhilaration and intensity. I don’t know about you but I could use some excitement and exhilaration but I have had enough of unpredictability and intensity. It is my goal for 2012 to have a new state of the art interactive association website up and running with a member dealer locater. The initial plans are underway and we hope to be live with it by the end of the first quarter. With a tire industry trade show taking place just 2 hours away in Cleveland this year the Association is currently looking at ways to attend as a group. One way under consideration is a one day bus trip. We hope to get a proposal out shortly so we can determine if enough interest exists to go forward. I have heard some rumblings that some in the industry are not too happy with this show taking place. Myself I think it would be an injustice to our members to ignore an industry trade show taking place in our own back yard. As your President I think my most important task is to bring to the members as much information and education as possible. This venue offers it at a level we can not duplicate. I see no down side to this show.I would like to pass on to you the following recommendation from The Tire Industry Association who after receiving the response from the NHTSA on certain hypothetical questions they posed concerning the make inoperative provisions of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act and TPMS, felt it necessary. “Based on NHTSA’s response, we are advising tire retailers to document the status of the TPMS before and after any tire or wheel service.”A complete description of the questions and the response were sent out to our members by email earlier. Should you have missed it or need it again contact me and I will forward it.Happy and Prosperous New Year to everyone and please support the Association that supports you the TDAofWPA. God Bless America.
